We had a great day out from Rabat in the neighbouring city of Temara, Morocco. This lesser-known city far exceeded expectations for a great day out. And we found THE best market in Temara! It was absolutely buzzing despite being right in the midst of Ramadan in Morocco.

About Temara, Morocco
Temara is a city in Rabat-Sale-Kenitra, Morocco. Although it is not as well-known as the Morocco’s cosmopolitan capital city of Rabat, there are plenty of things to do in Temara.
The city has many popular attractions, including The Green Belt, Temara Paint Ball, Foret de Temara (Temara Forest) and the very vibrant Massira market in Temara, Morocco.
Where is the market in Temara, Morocco?
We found the best market in Temara city in the suburb of Massira.
There are different sectors of Massira but the best (biggest and busiest) market is in Massira II.

Which day is the market in Temara?
The market in Massira II in Temara, Mroocco is a daily market. (How good is that!).
We visited during Ramadan and contrary to what we thought (that perhaps the market would be quieter during the daytime) it was bustling and spilling out into the surrounding streets.
During Ramadan the market is busiest in the afternoons as people do their shopping for Iftar (the evening meal to break their fast).
But there are vendors and stall holders setting up in the morning.
About Massira market in Temara – the experience
A day out at Massira II in Temara, Morocco was a real highlight for us during Ramadan. We were expecting a standard market experience, but Temara was absolutely buzzing!
The streets were filled with what looked like regular vendors selling fruits and vegetables, fresh produce, and herbs. And so many special pastries, cakes, and breads for Ramadan.
There were streets with butcheries and fish stalls and fresh seafood selling on the roadside. Cars were lined up down the sides of the main road with their boots full of Batbout and small sandwiches and pastries.
The atmosphere of the market in Temara during Ramadan was abuzz with all kinds of vendors literally spilling out of the main street and into all the adjoining alleyways and side roads. It was a great experience of Morocco, markets and Ramadan!
Cash or card?
The entire market in Temara is cash only.
However, there are ATMs nearby on the main road in Temara.
Does it feel safe?
It absolutely feels safe walking around Temara and the market as a tourist. People are friendly and proud of their wares and produce.
Make sure to ask before taking photos of people.
There are many tourist shops, restaurants, and accommodation in Rabat and surrounding the Temara marketplace area. As the capital city of Morocco, Rabat is a popular tourist destination in Morocco. And so even the Temara souk is used to tourists visiting.
But as with any souk in Morocco, do remember you are visiting a local market, and these people are here to sell and buy their local produce.
And absolutely make sure to visit. The weekly market is one of the best things to do in Temara!

If you are self-driving in Morocco, there is plenty of roadside parking along the main road through Massira in Temara.
We parked just a few minutes’ walk from the main roundabout and start of the market.

Seriously, this market in Temara was a great experience of Moroccan culture and the hospitality during the month of Ramadan.
