After being closed for over a year during the height of the pandemic, the reopening of the Muri Night Markets was a long-awaited celebration among locals and visiting tourists alike!
Rarotonga has some incredible local foods, drinks, vendors, and stall holders all in one buzzing evening marketplace in Muri. It is absolutely a must-do in Rarotonga and one of the highlights of any Rarotonga itinerary!
And right now, with great flights to Rarotonga from New Zealand, Australia and Hawaii the Muri Night Markets are a popular place to be – so get in early, enjoy the atmosphere and some seriously tasty treats!
When are the Muri Night Markets open?
The night markets are open from 5:00pm (until about 8:00pm) on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday evenings.
What’s for sale at the Muri Night Markets?
The night markets offer an awesome variety of food. There are food stalls, trucks, trailers and tables set up with everything from local BBQ meals, seafood, curries, pizza, desserts and more…

Cash or EFTPOS?
The Muri Night Market is cash-only with NZD currency.
- Tip: There is an ATM less than 20m away from the entrance to the markets that accepts international cards for cash withdrawals.
Where exactly are the Muri Night Markets?
The market is easy to spot on the main Ara Tapu road as you enter the Muri district in Ngatangiia.
Useful tips for visiting the Muri Night Markets
- Get there early: The markets open at 5:00pm and it’s a good idea to go early as they have the widest selection of food on offer from the start. (The markets are very popular that most stalls often sell out!).
- Cash: Bring NZD cash or Cook Islands coins as stalls are cash only.
- Parking: There is roadside parking along the main road in both directions from the market.
- Bus: Get dropped off by bus at the Muri Beach stop. There are nighttime clockwise buses Monday to Saturday.
