Keep in mind whilst planning your 2 Week India Itinerary that the best time to visit north India is in the winter months from October to March.  The winter months are preferable as the days are sunny and not too humid.

The complete adventure – 2 Week India Itinerary

Read on for the full details.

Day 1 – Delhi – Arrival

Welcome to India!  This 2 week India itinerary starts today in the Indian capital city of Delhi.  Take a taxi to your hotel and get settled in.

Depending on what time of day you arrive in India and where you are staying in Delhi you can head out for a first taste of Indian cuisine (in India!) or take it easy and start today with dinner in your hotel to get ready for a full day of exploring tomorrow.

Welcome to Delhi and the start of this two week India itinerary in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.

Day 2 – Delhi – Tour of Old Delhi and Sarojini Market

Today take a day tour in old Delhi to see some of the most famous historical sights.  Visit the fabulous Jama Masjid, India Gate, Humayun’s Tomb and the beautiful Lodi Gardens.

Or if you are keen to start your India itinerary with a spot of shopping the morning is a good time to head to Sarojini Market in South Delhi.  This is the best place to buy salwar kameez or Kurta to wear on your India trip!

You will have time after that to visit old Delhi and see the mosque and Red Fort or Humayun’s Tomb and Lodi Gardens before dinner at Connaught Place.

Day 3 – Jaisalmer – Flight from Delhi to Jaisalmer

Start today with breakfast in your hotel in Delhi.

Taxi to the domestic airport for a short flight to the beautiful Rajasthani desert town of Jaisalmer; known as the Golden City.

Flights to Jaisalmer operate during the winter months from October to March.  Transfer by Jeep to your accommodation in time for a lassi on the rooftop of your guesthouse overlooking the Golden City and Jaisalmer Fort.

Take a wander into the village for a first look at a quieter, more rural India.  Then walk up inside the Fort or see the sunset at Gadisar Lake before dinner at the guesthouse.

Welcome to Jaisalmer – the Golden City of Rajasthan.

Day 4, 5 – Jaisalmer – Camel Safari in the Thar Desert

Today is the highlight of Jaisalmer!  This part of Rajasthan is famous for the Thar Desert and the chance to take an overnight camel safari and sleep underneath the stars.

The camel safari doesn’t start until the afternoon, so this morning is a good time for a walk into the Villagers Market to grab a scarf and get desert-ready.  Take lunch on your guesthouse rooftop before departing by Jeep to the desert about 1 – 1.5 hours away.

Trek on camels from the village into the sunset and enjoy dinner cooked over the campfire in the sand dunes.  Sleep (literally) underneath the stars.

After sunrise and breakfast in the desert return by camel to the nearby village and back again by Jeep to Jaisalmer.

Enjoy a relaxed lunch back at your guesthouse (and a shower after the desert).  Take a late afternoon walking tour of Jaisalmer Fort or opt for a slow afternoon to take some rest.

Day 6 – Jodhpur – Bus from Jaisalmer to Jodhpur

Today is a travel day.  Enjoy a last breakfast on the rooftop in Jaisalmer and one final chai from the market square.

Depart mid-late morning by bus from Jaisalmer.  The bus takes around 5 – 6 hours to Jodhpur.

Day 7 – Jodhpur

Take a morning tour of the fascinating and historic BLUE city of Jodhpur with Blue City Walks.  Explore the small blue laneways and see the historic Mehrangarh Fort, the famous stepwell and colourful Hindu temples and shrines dotted around the streets and courtyards of the Blue City.

In the afternoon visit the colour bazaars of the old city or take a cooking class.

Day 8 – Udaipur – Car from Jodhpur to Udaipur stopping at Kumbhalgarh Fort

Today is another travel day and just over halfway through your 2 week India itinerary.  The cities of Jodhpur and Udaipur are not connected with direct trains, and so the best way to get from Jodhpur to Udaipur is by road.

The travel time from Jodhpur to Udaipur is around five hours.  Stop on the way to visit Kumbhalgarh Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the largest forts in India.

Day 9 – Udaipur City Palace and Lake Pichola

Take a walk in the morning through the old city and explore the Ghats on the lakefront of Pichola Lake.  Visit the City Palace and Museum and enjoy a boat trip out to Jagmandir Island, home to the iconic Jagmandir Water Palace which was once the summer residence of the royal family.

Finish your day in Udaipur with dinner at the waterfront Ambrai Restaurant.

A beaut day in Udaipur out on Lake Pichola.

Day 10 – Jaipur – Train

Today is your first journey by train in India.  Travel by train is one of the highlights of this 2 Week India Itinerary!

Take the early morning train from Udaipur and after arriving in Jaipur go straight to your accommodation – a traditional Haveli-style family hotel – by rickshaw.

Have some rest time this afternoon if you need it.  Or get a rickshaw out to visit the beautiful Hawa Mahal – the Wind Palace of Jaipur.

Day 12 – Agra – Train from Jaipur to Agra

Arrive in Agra and transfer by rickshaw to your homestay in time for a late lunch.  After some rest, take a rickshaw out to Agra Fort or stay back for a unique Indian cooking class and make your own Indian meal for dinner with your host family.

Day 13 – Agra – Sunrise at Taj Mahal and train to Delhi

Begin today with the most famous wonder of this 2 Week India Itineary: the Taj Mahal!

Wake up before sunrise for the awaited iconic visit to the famous Taj Mahal.  This is a great time to visit to beat the crowds for a unique tour without rush around this marvellous beauty.

Return to the homestay for a cooked breakfast with the option to rest until checkout time or head out again by rickshaw to visit the brilliant Baby Taj and Mehtab Bagh and viewpoint to the Taj Mahal across the Yamuna River.
