Vanlife Morocco: What are motorhome services really like in Morocco?

Alright. It’s time to share some of the nitty-gritty details about Morocco motorhome services.

We’re talking the ins and outs of all those vanlife routines (black, grey and otherwise) that become so familiar within such circles. But ones that can sound overwhelming (and certainly concerning) if you are considering Morocco motorhome services in comparison to Europe…

But rest assured; Morocco motorhome and campervan service areas and campsites do have the facilities you need to make your Moroccan vanlife adventures every bit as dreamed.

Morocco even came through with the goods that time we had an almost campervan-emergency-rated situation. That was when we found ourselves searching for blue toilet chemical in Morocco. (You might be picturing us wandering the streets of Agadir searching for a blue toilet solution for our motorhome cassette).  And you are almost right.

But feel inspired for Morocco.  There are motorhome services all over the place.  In varying degrees, sizes, opportunity and price (of course).

And I am going to tell you all about them…

So what are you talking about when you say Morocco motorhome services?

If you are considering vanlife in Morocco or wondering about bringing your motorhome to Morocco then no doubt you are starting to wonder what kind of services they have for vanlife here.

So I am also going to use this time (since we’re already talking toilets things grey and black here) to explain more and to show you the Morocco motorhome services we’ve found and what we’ve experienced traveling so far by campervan in Morocco.

And as above, with regards to motorhome services in Morocco we mean the details of how we found and the standards and availability of motorhome services to fill up and empty our campervan needs. Specifically…

  • Fresh water
  • Grey water; and,
  • Black (your motorhome cassette).

Firstly, what kind of fresh water and drinking water is available to fill your motorhome in Morocco?

As a basic introduction to campsites and campgrounds in Morocco there are two types of parking you will pay for:

  • Guarded parking
  • Campsites

Most campsites in Morocco will offer fresh water refill for your motorhome.  However, this is only so long as you are staying there.  (In case you’re wondering about trying to do things more cheaply and enquire about just rocking up and paying to refill your fresh water in Morocco; from experience you’ll be told to pay the same fee to stay the night).

And about that drinking water – don’t skip past this bit.

It is worth noting that when travelling by van down the coast of Morocco and refilling your fresh water at the campsites along the way, it could be salty…

We’re talking water close to undrinkable when boiled.  (Unless you like salty tea?).  If you’re thinking your tea tastes funny, take the lid off your kettle and check inside.  Ours had an entire ring of white salt stuck to the edge that was flaking off in our cups of tea.  Seriously gross.

Thankfully at more inland campsites we haven’t experienced this issue. (Asilah and Mohammedia we’re looking at you). And we haven’t noticed any damage to the water filter or pump.

But if the waters high in salinity you will notice on first taste and likely need to buy drinking water until you’re further south.  (We aren’t sure if this was an isolated experience at a few particular spots or due to the time of year or tide or something).  But in the end we bought water to boil for tea and coffees and just filled our tanks for washing and showers.

A bonus tip about refilling fresh water in Morocco (that you need to read).

If you have a hose for filling your fresh water tank in Morocco I suggest you use it every time.  Even if there’s one available; disconnect it and hook yours up.

This may seem like a pain at the time but you never know what that hose has been used for.  I always wondered why Gavin insisted on using our own hose each time.  But yes, Gavin was also that guy who went and spoke to a man at one of our first campsites after seeing him put the fresh water hose inside his cassette to flush it out and dump it straight into the grey waste hole…

This is disgusting.  And serious apologies for way too much information; but water is precious.  And fresh water in Morocco is even more so.

The bonus of using your own hose is that you know where it’s been.

What about grey water disposal in Morocco?

An easy answer as far as Morocco motorhome services available.  Even guarded parking areas (the ones that aren’t campsites) will have clear drains that you can empty your grey water waste into.

Most campsites and opportunities for grey water waste disposal is simply a drive-over drain and easily recognisable.

Where do you empty your motorhome cassette in Morocco?

As above its pretty much an option to empty your cassette toilet at every campsite in Morocco.

The biggest challenge emptying your cassette here is that you pretty much have to be checked in to a campsite in order to do this.  The guarded parking doesn’t usually have this option.  (Although in a couple of spots the parking warden or public toilet attendants did offer the option to lift a sewer lid and empty it that way for a small fee).  Just ask and they will have probably been asked already and have dealt with the situation before.

Whereas in Europe a lot of service stations and motorway rest stops have great motorhome service areas and facilities, this is not the case at gas stations in Morocco.

I will add a few photos of the service area facilities at campsites in Morocco.  But once actually there the area to empty your cassette toilet has been fairly standard and (mostly) kept in good order.

How do you find Morocco motorhome services?

What once must have been a different kind of adventure (and perhaps a search for vanlife services in Morocco that weren’t quite as specific and/or no doubt technical) is now made easy.

For us there are two main methods of finding Morocco motorhome services here.  And both of those come in the form of online forums:

These two apps (including the specific Morocco Vanlife group) have been invaluable for finding campervan services in Morocco.

Using Park4Night most of the campsites are reviewed individually and in great detail specifying what kind of services they have available to motorhomes.  And through the Facebook group we found answers to our questions (see below for the blue-and-detailed search we needed).

Can you buy blue toilet chemical in Morocco?

THIS is what I was referring to as our near-campervan-emergency as far as life in Morocco by motorhome was going.

About a month into our Moroccan adventures we started to get low on the stuff.  The once full bottle of precious blue liquid had dipped below halfway.  And we were left asking where we could buy blue toilet chemical in Morocco. (And we were asking, Googling and scouring the forums online for an answer).  Trust me.

Albeit you might first be wondering why we travelled to Morocco without enough blue toilet chemical. (Were we assuming you could just rock up to the souq and buy blue toilet chemical in Morocco?).

No.  We are actually enjoying our time in Morocco with our motorhome so much that we have decided to extend our stay! And not just by a few weeks… We actually meant to continue the drive south and take our motorhome to Mauritania.  And what this means is that we suddenly found ourselves with grand Morocco motorhome adventures planned; but not enough supplies for the journey…

So what kind of motorhome supplies were we looking for?

I’ll get straight to it.  As our plans changed and our initial month in Morocco was extending beyond three months away from Europe and the Schengen zone; we were several thousand kilometres down the coast and now found ourselves searching for Morocco motorhome supplies in Agadir.  (The southern city of Agadir was what we felt might be the last and largest city for a while as we planned our route even further and considered options for whether or not to enter Mauritania).

And, what we needed most was to find some blue chemical solution for our motorhome cassette toilet.  In Morocco…

We found (liquid gold) blue toilet chemical in Morocco.

So what kind of motorhome accessory shops are there in Morocco? And specifically in and around Agadir?

At this point this was the question front and foremost in our minds.  (And daily in the search option of our Facebook vanlife groups for Morocco).

But we found some!

I stumbled across the small RV Repair Shop in Agadir called Allocamp.  And it was exaaaactly what we needed.  We met the very friendly owner who had immediately replied the day prior to my emergency plea message via Google Maps and confirmed they stocked Thetford Blue Chemical at their shop in Agadir.

And in person they were extremely friendly and helpful asking if there was anything else we needed for our motorhome in Morocco.

We felt like we had hit the jackpot and skipped out of there blue-and-ready for another few months of Morocco motorhome adventures.

In conclusion…

And so, just like that we’ve written an entire blog about blue toilet chemical in Morocco.  And about Morocco motorhome services with more detail than you ever realised you might need. (Not exactly how I once imagined sharing our Morocco motorhome adventures but hey; needs must). And you found it useful right?  And now you know how to find blue toilet chemical in Morocco for your motorhome and all about the vanlife services down here.

It’s not really a secret after all.

And at the end of the story the best news is that means you can stock up, replenish motorhome supplies (certainly in Agadir) AND you get to travel for even longer in Morocco with your motorhome…

So happy travels!

  1. i never found travel in morocco that much different to europe or anywhere else for that matter. If i couldn’t find something i asked or made do. The aqua blue obsession is a bit sad, there are alternatives, eg washing up liquid. Just go and enjoy.

  2. Thank you for your blog
    Very useful info
