Getting a yellow fever vaccine in Casablanca, Morocco.

If, like us, you are traveling in Morocco and have that unrelenting desire curiosity to continue further south and see more of Africa you are likely looking in to whether you need a yellow fever vaccine and if you can get a yellow fever vaccine in Morocco…

Well the news is good.

You can get a yellow fever vaccine in Morocco.  And it’s easy – and friendly – to organise.

And do note, this blog is not to give any medical advice regarding the yellow fever vaccine.  (We are definitely not qualified to do that).

But here is our experience of getting a yellow fever vaccine in Morocco in 2023.

Where can you get a yellow fever vaccine in Morocco?

The most talked about place to get a yellow fever vaccine in Morocco (and in fact the only place I could find during my research about this) is in Casablanca

Casablanca is not the capital (that is Rabat) but it is the largest city in Morocco and the country’s economic and business centre.

You can get a Yellow Fever vaccine in Casablanca at the Institut Pasteur Du Maroc

Also known in English as the Pasteur Institute, it is the only centre in Morocco approved by the World Health Organisation (WHO) for the vaccine against yellow fever.

How much does it cost to get your yellow fever vaccine in Morocco?

The cost per person to get a yellow fever vaccine at the Pasteur Institute in Casablanca, Morocco is 222 Dirham.

  • 222 MAD (20 EUR / $21.50 USD)

There is no additional cost for processing the yellow card or for parking.

Is it easy to find the Pasteur Institute?

Where do you park to get your yellow fever vaccine at the Institut Pasteur?

Alright, so we did drive around the block before we park. (Ok, we drove around twice).

In the cities in Morocco with a motorhome it’s not always easy to park and we were looking out for a guarded parking space on the roadside.

But actually there is plenty of parking inside the grounds of the Pasteur Institute.  The guard at the entrance will just ask why you are visiting and direct you towards the parking lot.

See our map above with a marking on the entrance to the Pasteur Institute.

Google maps is rather too vague on the specific location of the entrance. And this way you won’t have to drive around the block (twice).

There is plenty of space to park inside the grounds.

Do you need to book in advance?

No.  You do not need to book in advance to get your yellow fever vaccine at the Pasteur Institute.

How long does it take?

When we turned up there were only a couple of other people in the waiting room.

The wait was only 15 minutes and the entire process took less than one hour.

Do you get your yellow fever vaccine card at the same time?

Yes. They will issue your yellow fever vaccine card straight away.

Keep this safe with you for your travels.

  • Note: Some countries have a 7 or 10-day stand down period after getting your vaccination until the card is valid. Do your research on this depending on where you are traveling to next.

What documents do you need to bring with you?

You need to bring your passport and cash (in MAD) to pay for the vaccine.
